President Breen, moved by the organization’s commendable actions in addressing systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace, wrote a letter pledging the support of Pacific Oaks to their cause.

The #MeToo movement has quickly become an iconic moment in modern American history.

“The Silence Breakers” forced their way onto the cover as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2017. Now, more recently,  some powerful Hollywood women have taken the next step, creating the TIME’S UP, an organization focused on “addressing inequalities and injustices in the workplace that have kept underrepresented groups from reaching their full potential.”

Oprah Winfrey epitomized many of these struggles in a moving speech during the recent Golden Globes.

In response to the creation of TIME’S UP, President of Pacific Oaks College, Pat Breen, has penned an official letter of support offering any resources the college can provide in the ongoing effort to address the challenges many women face:

As President of Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School in Pasadena, California, I write on behalf of a nearly 75-year old institution of higher education committed to social justice and advocacy. We would like to extend our congratulations for your action to address systemic inequality and injustice in the workplace. Pacific Oaks stands with the core values of TIME’S UP, which very much reflect our own: inclusion, equity, and the valuing of each individual.

We were moved by your pledge of support to combating sexual harassment for women everywhere, from show business to the working class, from boardrooms to academia. As a college, Pacific Oaks believes in uplifting all voices. We empower our students and community members in their commitment to enhancing human well-being and promoting economic and social justice for disadvantaged groups. We believe in the importance of academic and moral leadership in the field of advocacy and social justice.

In solidarity, Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School would like to offer our support to you. We would be happy to assist in spreading your message, and our faculty and students would be open to helping organize additional members for the TIME’S UP organization. Additionally, Pacific Oaks faculty, students, and staff have substantial knowledge and experience based upon our distinct programs: Advocacy & Social Justice, Education, Cultural & Family Psychology, Human Development, and Organizational Leadership & Change. We would be honored to share our expertise in these areas of study and would gladly provide you with knowledge of how to address cultural issues around these subjects.

Please feel free to call on Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School as a partner in your movement. The time is now.
